The most important factor that determines how well your clothes dryer works, and most importantly the safety of your dryer, is the dryer exhaust vent. A poor vent will increase the drying time needed and cause increased power bills. A poor vent can also cause the dryer to breakdown, or pose a fire hazard. Vent repair or replacement is not expensive, will save money on electric or gas bills and prevent a possible fire risk.
The photo's below are of the inside of a dryer that was brought in for service due to "long drying times". The problem in this case was a completely clogged dryer vent duct. This was a serious fire hazard.
